Physical Education and Health
Welcome to the Physical Education Department
Elevate Your Game. Build Your Strength. Commit to Your Health.
Physical fitness is the foundation of a long, high-quality life. In the Pike High School Physical Education Department, led by Chairperson Mr. Marcus Evans, we provide more than just a workout—we provide the tools for a lifetime of wellness. Whether you are a varsity athlete looking to gain a competitive edge or a student seeking new ways to stay active, our program offers a path tailored to your goals.
🏃 Core Fitness: Your Foundation
Every student begins their journey with our core PE and Health courses. These are designed to introduce you to a wide variety of movement forms while meeting state graduation requirements.
-
Physical Education I & II: Discover your potential through team and individual sports, aerobic exercises, and recreational games. A unique highlight of our program is Water Safety, where all students have the opportunity to master essential swimming skills.
-
Health Education: Health is a lifetime commitment. In this freshman-required course, you will analyze risk factors, study health behaviors, and become a competent consumer of health information to ensure your long-term well-being.
💪 Advanced Training & Performance
For students who want to push their limits, we offer elective courses that focus on high-level physical development and sports-specific training.
-
Advanced Physical Fitness: This high-intensity course is designed specifically for IHSAA athletes. With a focus on plyometrics, agility, and a structured weight program, this class is built to make marked improvements in your speed and strength.
-
Physical Fitness Elective: Focus on gaining muscular strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance through a daily regimen of running and weight training.
-
Team Sports: Perfect for the competitive student, this course allows you to fine-tune your athletic skills in sports like basketball, flag football, soccer, and softball.
🌊 Aquatics & Specialized Skills
Take advantage of our aquatic facilities to learn life-saving skills or enjoy a unique workout.
-
Lifeguarding: Become a certified hero. This course provides entry-level participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies, including CPR and first aid.
-
Fitness Swimming & Water Games: Looking for a low-impact, high-intensity workout? Improve your fitness through competitive swimming techniques, water polo, water basketball, and water aerobics.
🎓 Flexible Pathways to Credit
We understand that Pike students are busy and multi-talented. We offer several ways to fulfill your PE requirements:
-
The PE Waiver: Students involved in IHSAA sports, Cheerleading, NJROTC Drill, or Performing Arts (like Marching Band, Dance, or Guard) may apply for a waiver through their participation.
-
Indiana Online: Students have the option to earn one or both PE credits through approved online enrollment.
"Health is a lifetime commitment of analyzing individual risk factors and health decisions that promote health and prevent disease."
